The phone shows that it's trying to connect. I can see my face in the lower right-hand corner, my eyes are red, bloated.

I look like shit, awful, disgusting.

I try to clean my face off, to rub away the tears that fell and pooled on me. Clear it before the other person comes online. Before I see them before they get a chance to see me.

It feels like waiting an eternity, for someone that you’re not sure you want them to answer.

To show them that after all this time of being absent, missing, you’re still a mess, I’m still not right.

I’m still flawed.

Anna was someone that I knew, a friend that got into a fight with me before the night everyone was killed.

It was because of me she was alive, she decided not to go because she didn’t want to be anywhere near me

I told her that I hated her, I remember that so clear, it makes me wonder how other things are lost, missing.

The fight happened two days before we were set to leave, something stupid, something about Dylan Mara.

One of the guys that died that night too.

Everyone died that night.

I think, wonder what she'll say when she sees my name floating on her screen.

Someone that’s been missing, someone with so much glow around their name.

The girl that survived, the girl that vanished.

I’m all of these things, something to everyone.

Even if I didn’t know them in school, eventually they knew me.

Not many people you know or are in your town live to survive a massacre.

So many people dead, when only one walks out.

That trope that hangs from me, that I have to wear.

The final girl.

Something that shouldn’t exist, a phrase describing what I don’t want.

To be remembered for surviving, to live with the guilt knowing that I needed to die that night too.

That I lost a sister.

That Dylan Mara, that our fight, saved Anna’s life.

Then she answers.
